Beginning Editing

We began editing our first scene today and have put together the filming we have done so far as a draft. Whilst editing we noticed some errors which we need to correct. One mistake we made was that we had two shots of the writer typing with the same thing on the screen. This means that it looks like she was typing the whole time but nothing was being typed. In order to fix this we have to redo a side angle of the writer where she is writing the title and also redo an over the shoulder shot where she is then writing the name of the authors.

Another mistake we made whilst filming was that we did a side angle of the writers hands tapping to show how she is stuck and is thinking about what to write however, the tapping is very fast and it doesn't look realistic. In order to fix this we must film it again with her tapping more slowly so that it looks more realistic. We also made the mistake of having too many similar shots in a row. We have three shots where zooming is used in one scene which is a bit excessive. In order to fix this we had to cut down one of our shots where the zooming had finished, making it a still shot.

However, although we made a few small mistakes, they are easy to film again so we had a very successful first day of filming and editing. One thing we did whilst editing was add a cross fade between the opening zoom shot and the shot of the writer opening her laptop. We did this because it gives the effect of continuous zooming so that when we zoom in towards the window it then looks like we are zooming past the window and onto the writer. This effect worked very well for this shot.

I am very happy with the way things have turned out so far. The infinite zoom is something that we wanted to do because it works really well as an establishing shot because it introduces where the writer is and what she is doing.
