Ancillary Text Radio Trailer Ideas

Today I began planning for what I will do for my ancillary texts. I have chosen to do the poster and radio trailer for my film as I think they are most suited to the way I would market my film, if it was going to be released. Here is the brief:

10. A short film in its entirety, lasting approximately five minutes, which may be live action or animated or a combination of both, together with two of the following three options:

 – a poster for the film;
 – a radio trailer for the film;
 – a film magazine review page featuring the film

My main idea for the radio trailer is to have someone speaking about the film. It would include things like 'coming this winter' and 'named the best short film of the year'. This is because it will not only give the information needed but will also make people want to see the film. I also plan to have the narrator from the film doing the voice for the trailer as this will give the same effect and therefore give a glimpse of what the film will be like. Another thing I plan to do is have extracts from the sort film in the trailer. For example, sound effects we will use like the sound of footsteps running or heavy breathing. These will give off a scary atmosphere which will give the audience a sense of what the film will be like and what genre it will be. I will also include dialogue which will be used in the short film. This is only if we decide to use dialogue in the film along side the narration, we haven't decided on this yet as we will need to record the voice over first to see how it fits and if there is time for extra dialogue on top.

I got inspiration from these radio trailers because they are short but effective and give all the details someone would need, such as when it comes out in cinemas. It also makes you want to go watch the film because it says things like "The perfect film to kick off 2010".

This activity really helped me to decide on an idea and make sure that idea fit the conventions of a radio trailer.
