He developed the concept of cultural hegemony which means that the social or middle class dominate society and their life is considered 'normal'. Because of this, other classes accept these values and class them as a normal way of life. This means that lower social classes will always be shown as negative as they are unable to have the same lifestyle as middle class people. This is shown in youth culture films such as My Brother the Devil where two brothers are involved in a gang. When the older brother meets a middle class photographer he feels very out of place and looks up to him. It is also shown in Attack the Block, a film about a gang who's apartment block is attacked by aliens. The gang are considered trouble by other characters and are even referred to as 'monsters'.
