As a class we went on a trip to Wheatley Park School Film Festival. It was an event with awards for best fiction, best music video, best promotional and best overall production and four schools, including my own took part. Our year 12 work, 'The Visitor' was entered for the fiction award and there were a lot of great pieces entered which I got a lot of inspiration from. There was a guest speaker at the event, Brian Davies, the director of Audiomotion Studios and he gave a presentation about his work and later held a question and answer. He spoke about his work on films such as Maleficent and World War Z and video games like Call of Duty and I took a lot from what he said.
One thing I learned was about how much attention goes into animation. For example, they must use different movements for every character in a crowd as people find it very easy to notice patterns. This helped me with my own piece as I learnt how much attention must be put into small details, otherwise the piece won't look quite right. Something else I learnt from other student's productions was how much difference a wide range of shots and camera angles can make. Some of the work that was entered had a huge amount of shots and angles and it really made the piece seem realistic. This is something I want to incorporate into my own work.
Due to this visit I plan to spend more time on things like continuity editing and paying attention to small details in order to make my short film more realistic and believable.
